     IMG_0002 From http://www.bellevueartists.com/Gallery/corbin.htm

I believe art takes many forms in our lives. Art is the skill acquired by experience, study or observation through learning to see and appreciate. Natural and man made art is the world around us. Everything we see and use was a dream or a creation of someone’s originality. The beauty in the world is waiting for us to react and be creative. I like to draw and paint nature in both realistic and expressive ways.

IMG_0013 My current focus has been oils and the change back to oils was incredible inspiration for me.. I turned two of my rooms into a studio and I can completely loose myself in my painting. My painting has grown over the years even though I am a beginner. Art is in the eye of the beholder and seeing what the artist meant is not always what a viewer may see. Each of us brings to a work of art our own individual background and as well as our likes and dislikes.

I hold a Bachelor’s of Science in art from Indiana University. I have enjoyed being creative through out my teaching career. I was able to encourage, direct, and foster the growth of creativity in students with the types of projects and classes I set up. I spent my last four years of teaching, in the art world. I have taught in both elementary and middle school in the Bellevue Community for 30 years and I am now retired from Bellevue Public Schools.

Learning never stops. If you are interested in any of the paintings or painting techniques just give me a call. I am willing to provide private or small groups lessons in several media. I choose to begin with drawing and then take students into other media.

  • April's Featured Speaker: Peter Yesis

"Realism is the new avant-garde." -Peter Yesis

    Peter Yesis - Biographical Information

Celebrate the common. This is the theme woven through the artwork of Midwest oil painter Peter Yesis.

Peter's paintings transform commonplace scenes into images of lasting beauty. A few chairs in the yard or an old
man on a porch become the centerpiece of a work that elevates ordinary life to the extraordinary. Peter's work compels us to slow down and value life as it unfolds right in front of us. “I look for an expression, a scene or a moment that tells an unfinished story. Art is not about magnificence or splendor, but about the unexpected simplicity and honesty of our immediate surroundings.”

A native of New Jersey, Peter Yesis demonstrated a natural artistic talent early in life, but not until reaching his fifties did he pursue art on a full time basis. Working directly from his home in Omaha, Nebraska, he renders paintings in a softened, realistic style leaving space for thought and reflection. "Whether I am painting a still-life, a portrait, a figurative or a landscape, my goal is to draw the viewer 's eyes to the underlying sentience of seemingly
    common objects and scenes."

A number of Peter's pieces are presently exhibited at the So-Oh Art Gallery in Lincoln, Nebraska.

    His web address is www.peteryesisart.com

    His daily blog is www.dailypaintingpractice.blogspot.com

He will be giving a demonstration of one of his daily paintings as well as talking about his experience selling online.

Come and Join Us at our next meeting, April 1.
